It happened: I fell in love with Firefly

Firefly

I FIGURED I WOULD.

I’m as big a fan of Sci-Fi as I am of comedy, so I like when I get a show that incorporates both. Like a lot of the show I enjoy of this kind Firefly delivers pretty evenly on thrill, drama, dry comedy and action across the series, short as it is. I really do wish there was a lot more of it, since there is so much more story to tell. I’m on my second run through the first and only season of the series and it’s nearly killing me that there isn’t more of it. There is no closure of any kind! I guess there is always the movie, right? Now I have to watch Serenity….

I’VE HEARD GOOD THINGS

So I haven’t seen it yet, but I’ve heard that it’s mostly about solving the River riddle but I’m not so sure if it’ll be good or not, so I guess we’ll see how it goes. The poster looks pretty cool though!

Should have been doing this a long time ago

WHAT AM I TALKING ABOUT? I mean watching Firefly!

There is a pretty big library of different space adventure style movies and TV shows that float around in my head. I especially love Cowboy Bebop, a Japanese anime about bounty hunters in space, called cowboys, and very much done like a modern-day western. (See image below) The story was deep, the characters and story lines were beautifully written and it tugged on my heartstrings in all the right ways.

Cowboy Bebop

I BRING THIS UP BECAUSE…

Firefly really does bring back a lot of those feelings. Almost immediately I got a really similar vibe and said to myself “like a live-action Cowboy Bebop. Sweeeettttt…” I love that I recognize a lot of good actors from other shows I like, such as Adam Baldwin (also in Chuck), Alan Tudyk (also in Suburgatory), and Gina Torres (also in Suits). Now please don’t think me that stupid, I know Firefly predates these shows. I also just never got around to watching it. I kinda can’t believe it myself.

MY OFFICIAL VERDICT SO FAR? Love it!
