Marilyn Manson on the upcoming Californication… Woot?

Hank - Californication promo

So I’ve recently started watching Californication from the beginning (I got up to season 4 previously, but never got back on the bandwagon after the hiatus… also, this is why I’ve been absent fro so long) and despite being thoroughly disgusted with myself and every character on that show, I find that I still can’t help but watch. It’s like staring into the male psyche and seeing how they really wish they could live. I think the only saving grace to the show is that the main character is never truly happy, so I feel like he’s getting his come-uppins. While I don’t think it’s one of the best shows on TV, i do find it entertaining and plays on my lingering crush of Mulder from the X-Files.

The only reason I’m bringing the show up is because as I was watching the preview for next week I noticed one of my teenage heroes, Marilyn Manson, will be guest starring (season 6, episode 5). Now I do have to state that I have had no love for him past my 20th birthday, but it is nice to see a childhood hero pop up now and again in my adult life just to kinda see how they’ve been keeping themselves. It’s like seeing people from highschool who used to be popular and are fat, divorced or crazy now… so I’m a little excited. Considering I was fans of both X-Files and Manson at the same time, next week’s episode should be like a weird flashback to a weirder time for me. WOOT!

How have I NOT been watching Shameless?!

This show has a lot of stuff that I dig, starting with a strong female lead (played by the gorgeous and talented Emmy Rossum) and William H. Macy. Based on a UK series it’s about the Gallaghers, a family of 6 kids with a runaway mom and a drunk dad, and how they push to survive through poverty, their parents’ poor judgement and the number of bad decisions and hardships they all have to overcome as individuals and as a family. With some help from their friends, a spoiled rich guy who is bored of high society and wants nothing more than to be a part of this crazy life and family, a particularly well portrayed agoraphobic mother (Joan Cusack) of a crazy promiscuous daughter, a pair of sexually deviant neighbors who make a living bar tending and making porn and a family of very disturbed miscreants with worse parents than the Gallaghers.

Now while all of this sounds horrible, and it really is hard to watch sometimes, it is absolutely heartwarming. Coming from a life that is not nearly as rough but still pretty bad I can very much relate to a few of the situations these folks get themselves into, and the constant struggle for money is something that I (and I’m sure many many more out there) can wholly identify with. I mean, I’ve watched it twice through, back to back so I’m clearly hooked. It’s like beautiful poetry about a train wreck in slow motion hitting a pile of baby animals… so well written and well acted that you just can’t help but love it.

And all was right with the world!

I’m going to keep this short, because I’m balls tired, but MAN I got in some good TV tonight.

Gossip Girl had a twist I didn’t expect.

How I Met Your Mother was actually kinda good (although, has anyone else noticed that Lilly has gotten kinda really whiny since the whole baby thing?).

And 2 Broke Girls was cute as usual. I love the new eye candy addition (Ryan Hansen) too. 😉

So maybe it was because I’m feeling a little better from being sick, or maybe it was that TV land got its act together, but I don’t care. I was entertained.

Catching up on Monday on a Tuesday

So I fell asleep pretty early last night and didn’t even get to catch any of my Monday night shows. So tonight is How I Met Your Two Broke Gossip Girls…

FIRST, ON TWO BROKE GIRLS…

Everything was funny, as usual. Kat Dennings really killed it.

I find this show really just cant run out of material, and considering it’s main target of ridicule is the poor/rich difference (mostly in a making fun of rich people kind of way) and more importantly hipsters… because let’s face it, hipsters are a never-ending fountain of comic fodder.

This episode was particularly good for any girl out there wanting to stare at some Amish eye candy… it was also particularly vulgar, even for this show. And while they really got big into weaving “the cupcake business” into the story (an making sure to point it out in the show with supporting characters) they have taken a nice little break from it for the last few episodes and twisted in a little romantic side-story.

AND THEN THERE WAS HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER…

Which was pretty disappointing… as it has been this season. I really hope that when I go back over them all that this final season blends into the rest of the story better than it’s doing in my head. Although they threw in a couple of HIMYM style “but we’ll get to that”, cliffhangers which was nice, so I guess we’ll see if it gets better…

… GOD I hope it gets better…

AND FINALLY THERE WAS GOSSIP GIRL.

Which was gossipy and full of pretty clothes. Pretty much all it’s there for. So a win in my book.
